The 2019 tax season may be over, but it’s not too late to file for the EITC! You could still receive over $6,000 cash back.
It’s back-to-school time again! Could you use some extra cash to help pay for clothes and school supplies? If so, you’re not alone. Families across California are struggling to keep up with the rising costs of housing, transportation, health care, and child care. The California Earned Income Tax Credit (Cal EITC) can help.
The Cal EITC is a cash back tax credit that makes work pay better by returning a portion of the taxes withheld from your paycheck. So far in 2019, 2 million California households have received $353 million back through the Cal EITC, and $8 out of every $10 Cal EITC dollars goes to working parents.
Families earning less than $25,000 could get hundreds or even thousands of dollars back from the Cal EITC. The state and federal credit combined could mean more than $6,000 back in your pocket!
While the April 15 federal income tax filing deadline has passed, it’s not too late to file your return and claim your money. In fact, the Cal EITC can be claimed throughout the year. If you’ve already filed your taxes, and think you might be eligible for the Cal EITC — or if your unsure whether you received it or not — you can file an amendment to claim the Cal EITC.
Even if your not required to file taxes, you’re still likely eligible for a Cal EITC refund. However, you have to file a return to claim your cash. It’s your money, now it’s time to claim it!
If you’re eligible for the Cal EITC you may also be eligible for other public benefits. Check our public benefits campaign site for more information.
