Riverside – In an effort to remove barriers to claiming the Earned Income Tax Credit, CalEITC4Me is partnering with United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) to ensure their members get the cash-back credit that they deserve. CalEITC4me will be working with UFCW throughout tax season to educate their members in the community and through member to member communication. The partnership begins on Saturday, March 4 with a free tax preparation event in Riverside County with UFCW Local 1167. UFCW Local 1167 covers 18,000 members which include grocery store employees, meat packers, phlebotomists and a variety of other local jobs.

“We are excited and honored to be working with CalEITC4me to help our members file their taxes for free and receive their Earned Income Tax Credit,” said Rick Bruer, President of UFCW Local 1167. “This money can help them and their families pay the bills, put food on the table, or simply have extra in their savings.”

Assemblymember Jose Medina and Senator Richard Roth will also attend the event to meet and greet guests and spread the word about the benefits of CalEITC to working families and communities.

“This tax season we want every eligible family to claim the money they’ve earned. By bringing our resources directly to communities, we are offering more than free tax prep – we are delivering a message that we are here to help struggling families build economic security,” said Joseph N. Sanberg, CalEITC4Me Chair.

“We want families that made $60,000 or less in 2016 to know that there are VITA Free Tax Prep services conveniently located in their communities,” added Josh Fryday, President of Golden State Opportunity. “For families who cannot attend this Saturday, helps families find out how much of a refund they can expect, and offers information in Spanish and Mandarin.”
